NetSim has a dedicated power model for Sensor nodes that are part of WSN/IoT networks. The power model is user-configurable and can be found in the ZigBee Interface properties of the Sensor nodes. The default settings are as per the Reference document O. Landsiedel, K. Wehrle and S. Gotz, "Accurate Prediction of Power Consumption in Sensor  Networks. University of Tubingen, Germany," 2005

To configure the power model, go to Sensor node properties -> Interface Zigbee -> Physical Layer-> Power section as shown below:

Energy consumption is calculated individually for each sensor node that is part of the network scenario during various Radio States such as SLEEP, TRX_ON_BUSY, RX_ON_IDLE, RX_ON_BUSY, RX_OFF. Based on the calculations done, NetSim provides a detailed Energy Metrics table which provides energy consumption of each device with respect to Transmission, Reception, Idle Mode, and Sleep Mode

The energy consumption of each device (sensor node) is available in the Battery Model Metrics table.

The Energy Consumption in Sensor nodes can also be visualized via the NetSim Packet Animation window.

Let us consider the following example,

Consider a sensor network with 16 sensors uniformly placed and connected to 6LowPAN Gateway. The Gateway is in turn connected to the data network which consists of a Router and a Wired Node.

Sensor Applications are configured from Sensors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, and 8 to the Wired Node.

The battery power can be observed in the NetSim Packet Animator in the following way:

1. Go to NetSim Packet Animator

2. Click on View More

3. Select Battery Power and select the respective device(s) whose battery power is to be observed using the check box.
