Ad hoc links are used in NetSim to visually represent the connection of devices on an Ad hoc basis.

Connecting Adhoc links is a two-step process.

1. Click and drop the Adhoc link icon from the device panel.
2. Click (select) the Adhoc link, from the ribbon (toolbar). Then click on the gateway and on the dropped adhoc link icon (on-grid). This will connect the gateway to the adhoc link. Then click on the sensor and on the adhoc link icon (on-grid) to connect the sensor to the adhoc link.

Note: The connection between sensors and adhoc link (icon on the grid) is NOT done using a wireless link, but using an Adhoc link (in the ribbon) itself.

After this, you can add router and other external devices to the network. The router can be connected to the 6LoWPAN gateway using links (wired/wireless), not ad-hoc links.

Other external devices such as Wired node, Access point, Wireless nodes, etc can also be added to the network and connected using Wired/Wireless links.

For the scenario with a large number of devices, the User can use the Fast configuration window where a number of devices is required, device placement(uniform/random/file-based) can be given as input and the sensors/wireless nodes in IoT/WSN/MANET will be automatically connected to each other using adhoc link.
