When you import road networks from OSM with Latitudes and Longitudes, SUMO uses the information and converts it into an equivalent grid-based road network with X, Y coordinates.

An example is shown below:

When NetSim reads the Configuration.sumo.cfg it replicates the similar grid based network as shown below:

However, if you wish to create a VANET network over OSM maps in NetSim using the mapview option, follow the steps given below:
  • Go to New->VANET and click on cancel button when NetSim prompts you to provide a SUMO configuration as input.

  • Once a black grid environment is loaded go to settings->Environment Settings
  • Switch to the Map view tab and click on Ok
  • This will load OpenStreetMaps in NetSim design environment as shown below:
  • You can then zoom into specific regions in the map and add vehicles and connect them using Adhoc links similar to the screenshot you shared:
  • Go to the Vehicle properties individually and modify the Mobility model to anything other than SUMO. This is necessary because, SUMO mobility model cannot be used in this case since it provides X,Y Coordintes whereas NetSim will require latitudes and longitudes for OSM map based simulations.
  • If the mobility model is not modified in all the devices you may get the following error:
