NetSim GUI provides options for both Grid and Map-based backgrounds on which network topologies can be created.

In order to use the map view, users need to be connected to the Internet to load the map from OpenStreetMap servers.

However, if the user wants to use Map View without the internet, then the following workaround can be used.

Step 1: Connect the system with NetSim installed to the Internet

Step 2: Run NetSim, and go to New Simulation and select a network module (say Internetworks)

Step 3: Before dropping any device in the grid, click on Settings -> Grid/Map

Step 4: Select MAP - Provide appropriate Latitude/ Longitude/ Zoom Level

Step 5: Click on OK, Map will get downloaded and will load in NetSim

Step 6: Zoom the location(s) that you are going to use to create the network topology. Use mouse scroll to Zoom IN/OUT. NetSim will download the areas in the map that you zoom into.

Step 7: Now you can disconnect the Internet and attempt to create networks using Map View. Start from Step 2 to step 4. NetSim will load the already downloaded areas on which you can create your network scenario.

Note: The saved experiments with Map view cannot be ported to another system that doesn't have internet connectivity.
