NetSim provides Plots feature using which users can obtain link throughput plots for Wired/Wireless links and application throughput plots for each application that is configured. Users will have to enable Plots before running the simulation using the Plots Icon as shown below:

 

  • Upon clicking on the Plots icon Plots window will appear as shown below:
     
  • By default, all links and applications that are configured in the network will be selected. Users can choose to modify the selection to obtain plots only for specific links/applications. Click on ok after making changes if any to enable Plots.
  • After running the simulation with either Record Animation or Play & record animation options selected, NetSim Packet Animation window appears either after or during the simulation respectively as shown below:

Note: The following procedure applies to Windows 10 Operating system only. Users with other versions of Windows can use third-party video capture tools (Link to a list of common tools) to save NetSim packet animation as a video.

  • To quickly capture NetSim packet animation, launch the packet animation window. Before playing the animation, press the Windows logo key + G on the keyboard to open the Game bar. (or Select windows settings and then select Gaming option for Game bar-related settings)


Select the checkbox "yes, this is a game" option. Once you select yes Game bar recording window will open as shown below now start recording by pressing the record option. (Shortcut to start recording: Windows logo key + Alt + R) Now start playing the animation in NetSim using the play button in the packet animation window.



  • Note that the packet trace table will be displayed alongside animation, only if the packet trace feature was enabled before running the simulation.
  • The View More Animation options present in the Animation window can be used to display Plots alongside the animation.
  • You can see the recording window in the screen with several options.
  • Upon enabling Link throughput, a Link Throughput plot window appears as shown below:

  • This window can be moved and docked optionally in the NetSim Packet Animation window to conveniently view packet animation and the plots side by side as shown below(Dock guides will appear as you move the plot window over the animator window, you can drop the mouse pointer over the highlighted locations to dock):

  • Following is a screenshot of NetSim Packet Animator window with a link throughput plot window docked to it:
  • Upon clicking on the play animation button users can see plots alongside packet flow as shown below:

  • Once the animation has been recorded stop recording (Shortcut to stop recording: Windows logo key + Alt + R). Recorded clips will be saved in windows default videos folder  (Eg: C:\Users\TETCOS\Videos\Captures)
